The Conch Republic Marine Army is a grassroots, volunteer organization that has been making waves in the cleanup of Florida Keys marine habitats since 2017. We’re talking the removal of 227 tons of debris along 43 miles of the Lower Keys shoreline thanks to thousands of volunteers who muck through mangroves and brackish waters. Groups can arrange private weekday cleanup excursions through the organization. Just be prepared to wear clothes you don’t care about!

Arranged and managed by Southernmost Scavenger Hunt – a Key West-based company specializing in group outings and activities – the Build a Bike, Build a Dream program adds a fun community-oriented element to the team-building experience. Teams compete to win bicycle components, earning points for effective communication and assembly execution. The completed bikes are then donated to local youth initiatives, such as the Boys & Girls Club of the Keys.

Executed by Southernmost Scavenger Hunt, this popular program sends teams scrambling across Key West to complete a series of specific challenges and tasks. Think of it as the ultimate way to learn how to work together, while also exploring this southernmost island’s unique sites and charms. Conclude the event with an awards ceremony and cocktail reception back at Opal Key Resort & Marina.

Also organized by Southernmost Scavenger Hunt, the “Pole Position Produce” activity is a bit like your classic Pinewood Derby, but instead of shaping the pint-sized cars out of a wooden block, the teams’ materials are solely fruits, vegetables, and a few basic supplies (toothpicks, bamboo skewers, etc.). The result? Some very creative group thinking and collaboration. Points are awarded for style, sturdy construction, and speed.

Learn about Mote Marine Laboratory’s cutting-edge coral restoration project by booking a public tour or private tour (limited to 12 participants) to one of their three coral-growing campuses. Want to take it one step further? Book their hands-on “Slice of Paradise” program (available at their Islamorada and Key Largo locations), where groups of five participants at a time can try their hand at “microfragmentation,” followed by mounting bits of coral onto the ceramic pedestals that that they grow on within a tank until the pieces have plumped to the proper size for out-planting.

Key Lime Bike Tours accommodates groups from 15 to 150 people for custom-tailored tours shaped to your group’s specific pedaling points of interest. Lasting about 2.5 hours, the rides can include everything from Key West’s top attractions and landmarks – i.e. The Hemingway House, Mile Marker Zero, etc. – or take you through lesser-known locations of significance that only locals know about.
